In 1933 Bruce Hegedorn's father opened a dairy on Ridge Road. A quart of milk cost ten cents and was delivered packed in ice to the customer's door. Mr. Hegedorn eventually sold the dairy to Harold Garham, who sold the business to Parkside Dairy, who sold the business back to Bruce Hegedorn. Bruce originally wanted to open a meat market. A business acquaintance, Mr. Groupp, suggested adding groceries to the meat market and dairy. In 1953 an IGA store was built. Meat was the specialty and was always top quality.

According to an article found in the Webster Herald, the Grand Opening in 1953 drew 3,000-4,000 people. The crowds were phenomenal and attracted by clever marketing ideas such as free gifts, tickets for valuable prizes and was a truly successful Hegedorn-style hometown event. Chest-type freezers and other appliances were sold in the newly constructed, easily accessible, state-of-the-art, modern self-service store. Many of today's loyal shoppers attended the grand opening as a child.

Hegedorn's is known for its extremely courteous staff, easy shopping opportunity, outstanding service, carry out service and dinners to go. Hegedorn's believes in giving back to the community that has always supported them. The first lights donated to the Webster football field came from Hegedorn's. They have supported many sports teams and scout troops by welcoming them to sell popcorn and candy or holding car washes on site. Tours were always available for the kindergarten and pre-school children or scouts.

Hegedorn's also supports the Community Chest with their annual drive and other charities. Hegedorn's will continue to serve the Webster and surrounding communities with that same Hometown Pride that has remained constant over the years.
