Norm Gerber, a Webster native, has been a general contractor engaged in residential and commercial construction in Wayne and Eastern Monroe Counties for more than half a century. In 1982 he started Gerber Homes, a family owned and operated business. They have grown over the years, moving their base of operations to Ontario, New York.

Having developments in Ontario (Centennial Village), Walworth (Lincoln Estates), Palmyra (Heather Hills), Marion (Pineview Estates) and their newest in Webster (Gardenwood Estates). Concerned with environmental issues, they have made a commitment to work with the environment - designing communities "Inspired by Nature." Top priority has been given to retaining as much of the natural surrounding as possible. Sensitive to the environment in which they build, they use extensive landscaping to enhance open spaces and amenities. Considered "green builders", they pride themselves on creating a unique living environment well suited to the community in which it is located.

Gerber Homes has been involved at all levels of government, lobbying through the National Homebuilders Association to influence change within the homebuilding industry on a Global level as well as their involvement with the Rochester Homebuilders Association for changes and advance-ments on a local level. Their long history of involvement was recently recognized with honors: in 2002, Norm Gerber was voted Builder Member of the Year by the Rochester Home Builders' Association; in 2003 Norm was inducted into the New York State Builders Hall of Fame. He served on the Chamber Board from 1970-1976.

Gerber Homes is involved in many humanitarian efforts. They were instrumental in building the Webster Comfort Care Home on Holt Road. Norm made it his personal mission to build this house, for the terminally ill, with donations from Rochester Homebuilders' suppliers and subcontractors. It opened last year. With the assistance of all of those involved, they were able to donate the entire home. Gerber Homes also built and donated a children's "Garden Shed Playhouse" to be raffled off as a fundraiser to benefit the Habitat for Humanity. Most recently, Gerber Homes is in the midst of helping the Pines of Peace home in Ontario with a a new addition to their facility. Whether it be a local church, charity, or school organization - Gerber Homes is always there with equipment and time to assist wherever needed, to "Get It Done!"
