Jim's grandfather, Joseph, bought the farm in 1908. Jim's parents, also named Jim and Barbara, pursued converting the dairy farm to small fruits and vegetables in the 1950's. They began selling tomatoes in front of the house, then added other vegetables. They soon had a thriving farm stand. His parents razed one of the barns and built a farm market which opened in 1971. After Jim's father passed away, he operated the market for his mother until she retired. The market has seen many changes and business growth. It has been expanded to over seven greenhouses of annuals, perennials and hanging baskets. They farm over 300 acres growing such things as strawberries, sweet corn, broccoli, cauliflower, and pumpkins. Bauman's Farm Market, located at 1340 Five Mile Line Road, corner of Plank Road, also makes homemade fudge, pies, fried cakes, and fresh pressed apple cider in the fall. Every year just before Halloween, they build a huge corn stalk teepee for customers to enjoy. Jim is a member of the Knights of Columbus, St. John Newmann Council. Barb is a Girl Scout Leader. They help many agencies and charities. Congratulations! Thank you for all you do for our community. -- Return to Business of the Month Listing --
