In 1919 Jim's father, Carroll Sutter, opened the law firm. Jim joined the firm and 1959 and it became known as Sutter & Sutter. When his father died, Jim took over the business. Don Summers became a partner in the 1960's and the firm became known as Sutter & Summers. Pat became a partner in 1978 and the new firm name became Sutter, Summers & Lydon. Don passed away in 1998. Jim continues in the firm on a part-time basis.

The firm still practices general law but Pat has focused on estate planning, Medicaid planning, trust and estate administration, elder law and related areas. He presents monthly workshops on estate and Medicaid planning. Pat has served on many bar association committees at the state and county level. He is active in the Monroe County and NYS Bar Association continuing legal education programs.

Pat is a part-time Deputy Town Attorney for the Town of Webster. He has been involved in many community and civic activities such as Kiwanis Club, Webster Montessori School Board of Trustees, Member and Chairman of the Board of Management of the Bay View YMCA and a member of the Board of Management of the YMCA of Rochester and Monroe County. He is a member of the Webster Rural Cemetery Board, Member of the Fundraising Committee for Webster Comfort Care Home, and a member of the Strategic Planning Task Force for the Webster Central School District.

The firm staff consists of Theresa Clogg, paralegal, who deals primarily with estate administration; Karen Heintz, paralegal and bookkeeper, who deals primarily with real estate, estate planning and internal bookkeeping; and Donna Doll, receptionist and general legal assistant.

Pat has been married to Ann Lydon for almost 35 years, has three grown daughters and one 8-month old granddaughter - with lots of photos of her in his wallet
