  R. D. Specialties
  560 Salt Road, Webster, NY
  585-265-0220

The company began in the attic of the family home on Treyer Street in Rochester. It was started by Doug’s father, Richard Krasucki. With some early success, in the middle of the Depression, Doug’s parents celebrated a $15 order from Riegel Paper Co .with a package of Hostess Twinkies.
R.D. Specialties guarantees its customers with the finest quality coating and converting equipment and supplies. They are always working to improve the quality of their coating rods (picture a stainless steel rod covered with a tightly wound spring) that are used to control the thickness of coatings applied to paper, film, foil or paperboard. Customers from around the world use this product to make specialty papers, window film, protective tape, release papers, adhesive tape and many other products. Whenever an extra hand was needed, Doug was pressed into service. At the age of 8 his mother taught him to operate a drill press and how to silver solder the wires at the end of the rods. Aside from a part time job during college, RDS has been his whole life.
In 1948 the family and business moved to Salt Road, Webster. In 1961 his father retired from the Post Office and went full time with RDS. He hired part time helpers and one full time. The horses and chickens were evicted from the barn and the business moved in. By 1996 a series of additions to the barn were removed and replaced with a new building. The family home became the company offices. That additional space came in handy when in 1999 RDS acquired the assets of a direct competitor, H&W Metering Bar Co. and hired three of their employees. Today they have 16 employees -12 have been with the company for over 10 years. Ownership will soon be transferred to Peter, Doug’s son.
RDS is very community oriented. They are a supporter of the Webster Museum, the Arboretum, Webster Comfort Care and others. Doug is the immediate past president of the Webster Chamber, currently chairing the Case For Business committee. He’s been involved with Webster Cable Access since its beginning and hosts a monthly Electronic Town Meeting with the town supervisor and other community officials on Cable Channel 12.
