Ann Kowal, President

As you may have heard me say before – we are busy at the Chamber. I have been so fortunate to have great support from the administration, Board of Directors and the volunteers on the committees. One of the results of our Strategic Planning and our new Mission was to take a close look at our present committees and evaluate their duties and restructure, if necessary. This process has begun and I believe it will assist us in being yet more effective in serving our members and to assist us in our collaborative efforts. We may even have new committees formed as a result, as we see that we can provide more services to the business community and membership. What does that mean to you?? We will reach out and recruit more members to join committees. As the saying goes, “many hands make light work.” When I attend our monthly Breakfast meetings, I am amazed at the diverse talent that is under one roof and we all are gathering for different reasons. One value in attending meetings is networking. If you asked me 10 years ago what the word or concept meant, I don’t think I would have been able to describe its meaning, much less its value. The more people you meet, the more people know about your business, who you are and who to call when they may need your service or products.
Did you ever notice the phrase, “ People really do conduct business with people they know.” It is in our newsletter every month – it is true. When you join a committee, that networking link becomes stronger and twofold. Not only are you getting to know others even closer, but also you are working together to help an organization that serves each other and the community. Most committees meet monthly, for an hour or so. The tasks are shared – it really doesn`t take a lot of your time and I have said it before – we have fun!
Currently the committees are: Program and Events, Membership, Economic Development (aka Case 4 Business), Governance and the new Communications Committee. I invite and encourage you to talk to any Board member or committee member to see where your talents are best suited. Just Email or call any of us at the Chamber office. Open your mind and ear to a request for assistance and join our fun.
By the time you read this, one of the first steps in collaborating with the community will have already occurred. We had our first meeting with the Town, Village, School and Chamber to discuss our role together in the ever-growing economic development that is occurring in Webster. It is an exciting time for all of us and we will strive to maintain the quality living, working and shopping in Webster.
