Barry's Column

I hope you are enjoying the summer and I also hope that you are staying safe. Summer is a great time to gather for some recreation, relaxation, and fun! Please remember to be cautious and responsible in all your summer activities.

We have a quiet month in August, but we do have some fun planned. We have an Eat, Drink and Connect on Thursday, August 22nd hosted by Beyond Cuts. Robyn says the weather will be beautiful and she has plans for some good food and an opportunity for you to get to know your fellow Chamber members.

Our fiscal year started on July 1st and that means that your annual dues have been billed and you have received that statement. If your dues are still unpaid on August 19th, we will be forced to suspend your membership (including your listing on our Google authoritative website). Please call the Chamber office if your payment is in process or to pay by credit card.

Our breakfast this month will be a week early because the normal last Friday of the month touches on a holiday weekend (I know, don’t mention that is the last holiday of the summer). Breakfast will be on the 23rd at the Columbus Center on Barrett Drive at 7:00 AM. Don’t forget to change your calendar and to call Barb or email her with your reservation.

The famous Chamber Power Hours will be returning in September – watch for emails and check the website for details about upcoming dates and topics.

Lastly, don’t forget the October deadline for the employee sexual harassment training requirement mandated for all employees in New York State. Check the website for discounted training rates.

Enjoy the rest of summer and I will see you at Breakfast on the 23rd

New York State Law Change

Attention all Employers:

As part of the Governor’s Budget, passed by the legislature and signed by the Governor and effective immediately, employers are required to allow employees time off, with pay, to vote in any public election. Additionally, employers are required to post that information conspicuously where employees will see it.

The NYS Board of Elections has provided a “poster/notice” for you to use that meets the requirements of the law. I have attached that to this email and provided you with a link here:  https://www.elections.ny.gov/NYSBOE/elections/AttentionEmployees.pdf

The attached/linked PDF provides the actual law on page one and the “poster/notice” on page two. Please read them both and note that this notice to employees is to be posted at least 10 workdays before each election and remain up until the polls close for that election. THE NEXT PUBLIC ELECTION IN NYS IS THE PRIMARIES TO BE HELD ON JUNE 25TH, SO THIS NOTICE NEEDS TO BE POSTED TODAY.
