Barry's Column

Today we had the first snow “storm” of the season. There was enough snow to need the snow blower, but it didn’t seem too stormy. November is a funny month, sometimes it’s a Fall month and sometimes it’s a Winter month – you never know what you’re going to get!

November laid out differently this year, the last Friday of November is the 30th and it isn’t Thanksgiving weekend, so we are having Breakfast at the very end of the month.

It will be your last Breakfast to bring new hats, gloves, mittens, scarves, and socks that we are collecting for distribution in Webster to those in need, and to bring an unwrapped toy for a child as part of Chamber member Henderson Ford toy drive for families in greater Rochester. Please consider making a donation.

Open enrollment is underway for insurance – if you want to look at your plan and make a change or if you need help enrolling or updating your NY State of Health account, call the Chamber and we can help!

Thanksgiving is next week and it’s a good time to spend a few minutes reflecting on the things in our lives for which we are grateful.  Our families – both our families of origin and the families we choose – our friends and neighbors, our jobs and our co-workers, our health and well-being, for shelter and food and socks on our feet. Take a minute alongside the turkey and the shopping to give it some thought – my guess is if you do think about it, we have a ton to be grateful for. Here’s a little perspective: if you make $32,400 per year, you are in the top 1% of the wage earners in the world.

Lastly, one of the largest returns on your investment in your membership dues with the Chamber of Commerce is your listing on the Chamber’s Google authoritative website.  The end of the year is coming and now is a great time to look at your listing and make sure it’s up to date and is using keywords and phrases that will help it get 1st-page search results when someone is looking for your business. Take a look at your listing and make sure you have it the way it should be – if you need help, call me.

And for the last “lastly”: thank you to all who sent birthday wishes and cards – it is greatly appreciated!

This month’s business of the month is Rose Gabrielle-Angell, Licensed Associate Real Estate Broker from RE/MAX Plus. She started her real estate career in Fairport at a small independently owned office.  Their focus and sales training was targeted at buyers looking for new construction rather than existing homes.  Her initial interests in real estate were land development, new construction, and property management. Back in 2003, when investigating a new investment project, a local real estate broker encouraged me to get my license and sell real estate.  I quickly learned I had found my passion. I loved not only meeting and working with new people, but I was drawn in by the intricacy & diversity of the real estate business—no two transactions are ever the same & I learn something new each & every time.  Rose moved to RE/MAX Plus in October 2004.

Main areas of expertise are single family residential sales, new construction, investment properties, and luxury waterfront properties.  Past sales include areas in Rochester and suburban areas in Monroe, Wayne, and Ontario Counties.

It gives me a great deal of personal satisfaction to be an integral part of my clients’ purchase or sale of their home as, for many, this is their greatest single financial investment.  These moves are generally tied to some life event…first home, new baby, newly married, upsizing, downsizing, and many other life-stage transitions. Because of the impact & importance of these moves, I do not take my job responsibilities lightly.  I do not see myself as a salesperson, but as a facilitator, problem solver, and trusted advisor.

I am an avid supporter of the Habitat for Humanity, which is a non-profit Christian organization that partners with homeowners to help provide affordable housing for low-income families.  As a token of my appreciation and support, I have made donations on behalf of my clients and have gifted them with the Sawyer keepsake teddy bear at closing.  RE/MAX Plus is proud to support our local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital, the Golisano Children’s Hospital at Strong.  In addition to donating a portion of each commission check, I have contributed by donating & volunteering at our Annual RE/MAX Plus charity golf tournament, resulting in approximately $250,000 benefiting the Golisano Children’s Hospital.  These funds have helped build two rooms where families can stay on-site in comfort while their child receives treatment at the hospital. We are on our way to a third room and will keep going.

Each year, I host several Client Appreciation Events in order to stay connected and maintain ongoing relationships with my good clients & business partners.  The theme of this year’s event on November 15th will be “Thanks for Giving”.  As we all reflect on what we are thankful for this time of year—new business opportunities, referrals, health, family & friends—I believe it is important we consider those with special needs right here in our own community.  I ask each guest to bring a non-perishable food item to the event for my donation box to the HOPE Ministry. HOPE Ministry serves primarily Webster families and offers food pantry services, clothing closet, household goods, furniture, free counseling and emergency financial assistance to prevent homelessness.

In 2017, I attended the RE/MAX International Convention in Las Vegas and was proudly awarded the RE/MAX Hall of Fame Award—a career milestone based on sales volume.  The award plaque was handed to me directly from the founder of RE/MAX himself, David Liniger—truly an honor and an exciting moment in my career!

Congratulations to Rose Gabrielle-Angell of RE/MAX Plus on being November’s Business of the Month!

2018 ICON Honors winners announced

By: Rochester Business Journal Staff October 31, 2018

The recipients of the Rochester Business Journal’s 2018 ICON Honors awards have been selected.

The honorees are business leaders over the age of 60 who have had notable success and demonstrate strong leadership both within and outside of their chosen field.

“Those recognized by the 2018 Icon Honors have long sparked innovation and progress, meeting a variety of challenges in Rochester and beyond,” said Suzanne Fischer-Huettner, publisher of the Rochester Business Journal. “They have accomplished many incredible career achievements. Most importantly, they give back to their communities in addition to being mentors and role models for the next generation. They are, quite simply, inspirational, and the Rochester Business Journal is honored to recognize them.”

The ICON Honors awards will be presented Monday, Dec. 10, at a reception from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at Genesee Valley Club, 421 East Avenue in Rochester. Winners will be profiled in a special publication that will be inserted into the Dec. 14 issue of the Rochester Business Journal and available online at www.rbj.net.

Randy and Marion Henderson Honored at Community Foundation Philanthropy Awards

Rochester, Webster, N.Y – Randy and Marion Henderson were one of three families that were celebrated at the Rochester Area Community Foundation’s 2018 Philanthropy Awards. The dealership owners were honored for their Henderson Family Legacy Fund, Roberts Wesleyan College scholarship endowment fund, Henderson Family Ford Foundation, and support of the Rochester and Webster public schools. The awards luncheon was held September 20th at the Joseph A. Floreano Rochester Riverside Convention Center.

The event’s theme was “The Power of Many.” The Community Foundation President & CEO Jennifer Leonard did a thorough job of recognizing the many community contributors which have positively affected our greater community over the years. Since 1991, more than 120 Philanthropy Award recipients have been recognized. Their stories continue to inspire and educate members of our community to further serve our neighbors’ by assisting with their needs.

Recently deceased local artist Wendell Castle was the creator of the “loving cup” award.  This award represents many hands which have made our community what it is today.

Henderson Ford President Randy Henderson stated, “It is a honor and privilege to be recognized alongside Kathy Nixon, and Bud and Peg Frame. The heart of the community lies within the giving spirit. These individuals truly showcase this value.”

2018 Leaf Pick Up Town of Webster

The Webster Highway Department will start their annual Leaf Pick-Up on Monday, October 22, 2018, weather permitting.  We will make every effort to pick up on a weekly basis until the week of Monday, November 26, 2018, when we will make one final pass throughout the town, starting from the West side to the East side.

This may not take a full week and depends on the amount of leaves needing to be picked up.  Any leaves collected after that will have to be bagged and left for your trash collector.

Please DO NOT place leaves in the road or in the gutter.  Placing the leaves in the road and gutters is illegal and creates an unsafe condition for drivers as well as pedestrians.  It also increases wear and tear on our leaf machines as the leaves cannot dry out after a rain event and slows down the leaf pick up operation.   Placing the leaves in the gutters also clogs the catch basins and can result in flooding during a rain event.

If anyone has any questions regarding the Leaf Pick-up, please contact the Highway Department at (585) 872-1443, Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
