Barry's Column

It’s May, right? I think we may actually be getting some warmer weather and some drier weather. I hope so.

We are coming up on a busy time of year for everyone. School is winding down, college kids are coming home, vacation planning and that darn grass is growing!

This week we have the Opioid Town Hall meeting, the school budget vote, and an upcoming long weekend! (The Chamber office will be closed on Monday, May 27th to observe Memorial Day).

Our May breakfast meeting will include a couple of presentations and the elections of some new directors to the Chamber Board. Please take a look at the ballot included in the newsletter. Breakfast is May 31st (a little different to have it after the holiday weekend) so don’t forget to add it to your calendar.

In June, we will be honoring our longevity members. These are Chamber member businesses and organizations that are celebrating anniversaries of 25 or more years (30, 35, 40, 45, etc.). If your business is celebrating a milestone anniversary, please call Barb at the office so we can include you.

Our new fiscal year starts July 1st and the Board has passed our annual budget. It’s a good time to review the finances and look at how well we are performing. We would like to grow membership so please take a minute to tell another business about the benefits you get from your membership and invite them to a breakfast to see all the fun for themselves. One of the benefits is the directory listing on the Chamber’s website – Google looks to us for facts and data – is your listing up to date? Maybe it’s time for an update to give a new spring look. We have some very active committees in the Chamber – are you participating? We want and need your input to make this the best Chamber it can be – a great way to do that is to work on a committee and bring your ideas and expertise. You can always call the office, too. I would like to hear about the things we should be doing and the things we do that we could live without. Remember that the Chamber works for you – our members – we are here to help you!

Lastly, Memorial Day is Monday, May 27th, originally called Decoration Day, it is a day of remembrance for those who have died in military service for the United States. Webster will have a parade along Main Street that steps off at 9:30 am and proceeds to the Webster Rural Cemetery on Ridge Road (corner of Holt) where ceremonies will be held. Please have a safe and wonderful holiday weekend!

Webster Chamber of Commerce congratulates Wegmans Food Markets at 900 Holt Road Webster 14580 as this month’s Business of the Month

Family owned since 1916, Danny, Colleen, and Nicole Wegman continue in the tradition started by their family of providing great customer experience.

Wegmans strives to empower their employees to make decisions that improve their work and benefit both customers and company and pursue excellence in everything they do. They respect and listen to both customer and staff so the well being and success of every person is achieved.

What they like best is customer interaction and being able to make a difference in their communities. The Holt Road store employs 498 people and has been open since 1990 and is always a busy place to shop and see friends.

Holt Road Wegmans is part of yearly community events like donations to United Way, Food Link, Hunger Relief and employee scholarships. Wegman's corporation has donated 7.9 million dollars to community-wide efforts through donations and sponsoring events locally.

They recently sponsored a “Connect at Noon” event at the Chamber where they talked a little about Holt Road Wegmans becoming more “connected” with our community.  As members of the Chamber and this community, their goal is to not only to grow their catering business but also get to know the local businesses in the town.

Congratulations to Holt Rd Wegmans as our Business of the Month!

Volunteers Needed

Recently, we have added rides for banking that might fit into a business volunteer program. For example, if a business would like to donate three hours every other week for driving; we would set up a few seniors to go to the bank on a set schedule, such as every other Wednesday from 9:00 AM to Noon. This would greatly help our need for additional volunteer drivers. Of course, we would be very receptive to any offering of volunteering from the business community.

Webster Community Chest Peep Show Results!

Webster Theatre Guild to Stage The Addams Family Musical This October

The Webster Theatre Guild is pleased to announce its fall production of The Addams Family, which will take the stage at the Webster Thomas High School Auditorium during the first and second weekends of October.

The Addams Family is a musical comedy with music and lyrics by Andrew Lippa and the book by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice. The show is based upon The Addams Family characters created by Charles Addams in his single-panel gag cartoons, which depict a ghoulish American family with an affinity for all things macabre. Although numerous film and television adaptations of Addams’ cartoons exist, the musical is the first stage show based on these characters.

Audition and performance dates and times will be announced soon, so please visit the Webster Theatre Guild’s website regularly at www.webstertheatreguild.org for the most up-to-date information.
