Barry's Column

As we move towards more businesses and activities opening up, the Chamber moves along as well. We have transitioned from virtual to in-person Eat, Drink and Connect events, and Breakfast meetings. The events have followed the Governor’s guidance for gathering concerning social distancing, masks, serving food, and limiting attendees.

Our next Breakfast is Friday, September 25th at the Columbus Center on Barrett Drive at 7:30 AM. Total attendees will be limited to 50, social distancing, masks, and food service will follow the Governor’s guidance.

The earlier guidance restrictions issued by the Governor canceled our breakfasts, including our breakfast in May when we would normally conduct our annual election of new Board members. We will be holding those elections at the September breakfast – see the website for the nominations.

Additionally, because our by-laws call for the elections to take place in May, we need to approve a by-laws amendment changing that to September before we hold the Board elections. A copy of the proposed changes is posted on the website.

Our Power Hour presentations will continue to be virtual as that method expands the number of people that can attend giving our members more opportunity to learn about relevant topics. If you have a Power Hour topic that is of interest, email me and I will forward it to our Education Committee. Email me too if you would like to work on that Committee.

If you would like to host an Eat, Drink & Connect event at your business, please let us know. Larger spaces or outdoor spaces are conducive to social spacing. It’s a great way to get other Chamber members into your business and show them what you do!

The kids are back in school (kinda) and the leaves are turning and the cooler weather is coming. That will precipitate more changes (we hope) in the Governor’s guidance and take us down the next precarious path of staying in business and rebuilding.

We are in the renewal cycle for membership dues right now. You have already received your annual bill. Thank you for your ongoing support of the Webster Chamber of Commerce.

In this year of seemingly never-ending new information for our businesses, the Chamber worked hard to keep you informed with the latest information through our dedicated website page on COVID-19, with email blasts, as well as answering your questions via email and phone calls. As we move through the re-opening process, we continue to support and promote all of our members. Your support of the Chamber allows us to continue those efforts to adjust, reopen, and rebuild!

The Chamber’s authoritative website, our educational Power Hours, our gatherings to connect (virtual and now some in person), including our monthly breakfast meetings, our support of the Webster Economic Development Alliance, and your listing in the Chamber directory, to name a few, are ongoing benefits of your Chamber membership.

In an effort to provide added benefit during the height of the closures and restrictions, the Chamber extended memberships by 3 months (25%) to end on September 30th rather than June 30th. We think the investment in Chamber membership, a little more than $4 a week, gives you a significant return. Considering the advertising benefit of your directory listing improving your search results alone, your Chamber membership is a great investment.

We recognize that businesses are under tremendous strain, including managing cash flow and financial expenditures. The Chamber is prepared to help in a variety of ways for those businesses currently experiencing issues. We don’t want any member to lose the benefits the Chamber provides due to cash flow – we know you need to look into the future and the Chamber is ready to assist you with payment options to keep you in the Chamber family. Please call the Chamber to discuss your options – we can help you maintain your membership and benefits.

Thank you again for your ongoing connection to the community through your Chamber membership – customers and fellow businesses know that Chamber members are connected and committed to our community!

Important Notice

Important notice: At the Breakfast Meeting on September 25th, the Chamber members will be voting on a By-Laws change that will allow for the election of Board members in September (rather than May) because the May meeting was canceled due to the Governor’s guidance.
